LEARN MORE ABOUT GRO

WHAT IS

AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HERMANN?

The leadership and residents of Hermann look forward to creating a unifying plan for progress. We want this plan to contain stated goals, action steps for implementation, and accountability measures built-in, for the city. We hope that in the planning process, pinpoints the key elements that address Hermann’s economic challenges, and with the use of one or two projects, we find solutions. The small town of Hermann enjoys many assets of a much larger city – its hospital, many restaurants, museums, and cultural institutions. Our rich German heritage and beautiful location on the Missouri River are assets and a draw for visitors. Tourism is a key revenue source for the City. We feel that participating in the GRO 3.0 program will provide an out-of-the-ordinary opportunity for us to work together to create measured and sustainable growth for our City.
Community Guide
Our vision is to become the most desirable community to live in, visit, grow up in, and move to. We will honor our past but also change to create an infinite future for our community. We unite dreamers and doers with resources to continue following this calling.

Hermann History

Nestled among beautiful hills along the Missouri River, our small, friendly community of Hermann is welcoming and inviting to all. Our population of about 7,400 is across four counties in Missouri – Gasconade, Montgomery, Franklin, and Warren – with around 2,500 living within the City of Hermann. Area residents take advantage of Hermann’s amenities such as the Hermann Area District Hospital, Scenic Regional Library Branch, access to rail (Amtrak service between Kansas City and St. Louis), outstanding restaurants, variety of shops, grocery stores, and access to recreation (Missouri River, Katy Trail State Park). The safe community feel, along with an excellent school system, makes this a perfect place to live and raise children. Public education in Hermann is administered by Gasconade County R-I School District, which operates two elementary schools, one middle school, and Hermann High School. St. George Catholic School offers pre-school through 8th grade for area children.

YOUR BUSINESS BELONGS HERE

Hermann is situated in the middle of the state and is an easy drive to major metropolitan areas such as Columbia, Jefferson City, and St. Louis. The Hermann Area boasts low unemployment and low poverty rates: both around 7%. The Median household income for the area is around $46,000. The majority of jobs in the area connect to manufacturing, education, and health services. Trade, transportation, leisure, and hospitality industries follow closely behind these. There are numerous wineries in and around Hermann alongside its downtown historic district filled with restaurants, guest houses/B&B’s, shops, galleries, and museums that provide employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for area residents. The City has 5G broadband service, a low crime rate, and good schools. Bolstered by a labor force with a strong work ethic, the City of Hermann works hard to help local businesses grow and expand and to attract new business and industry.

Hermann’s Parks and Recreations provides recreational opportunities for area residents like; playgrounds to benches overlooking beautiful scenery. There are several City parks – one with an RV Park, swimming pool, and playgrounds. A Katy Trail State Park Trailhead is located only two miles from Hermann and is open year-round for cyclists, hikers, and joggers. Area golf enthusiasts can play a round of golf at Loutre Shore Country Club. For those in Hermann wanting more adventure, Eco Zipline tours feature Missouri’s longest, highest, and fastest zipline courses. Hermann holds several annual festivals each year, including; Wurstfest, Maifest, and Oktoberfest. Seven wineries, three distilleries, and one brewery call Hermann home. Many shops are in the Historic District, and spa services are available in the area. For history buffs, several museums in Hermann offer a rich experience. These include the Deutschheim State Historic Site, Gasconade County Courthouse, Gasconade County Historical Archives, Historic Hermann at the Old German School, and the White House Hotel.
